Named after our country's 3rd President, Thomas Jefferson, Jefferson became the county seat for Jackson Georgia in the early 1800's.  What was once known as an Indian Settlement known as Thomocaggan, Jefferson was incorporated as Jeffersonville while later became Jaffersonton and again shortened to Jefferson Georgia in the mid 1800's.

Rich in history, the bountiful Jefferson Georgia is located only 18 miles from Athens, Clarke County.  Acres of rolling hills and picturesque buildings make up the scenic surroundings of this inviting city.

Dedicated to providing quality, safety, and fun, the Jefferson Recreation Department offers a number of things to do including:  soccer fields, basketball courts, batting cages, and more!  The 99-acre park leaves plenty of space for family enjoyment and walking trails for evening leisurely strolls.  The Fefferson City club house is available for rental with nearby restroom facilities, a playground, sand volleyball court, and stocked pond for fishing, yet not to be forgotten is the summertime splash at the city's community swimming pool open from Memorial Day through Labor Day.  Whether it be fine dining, shopping, outdoor adventure, to a tour through the Crawford Medical Museum, you're sure to find excitement in and around Jefferson Georgia!
