DePalma’s Italian Cafe has been a long time favorite Italian restaurant in Athens. It’s independently owned and is always a good option for lunch or dinner. The downtown location was renovated several years ago and has an upscale feel with plaster walls, dim lighting and nice decor. They have private booths as well as open seating areas next to the bar. The food options includes my favorite, chicken scaloppini. They also make the best pizza in town! Or you can order various pasta dishes, lasagna, sandwiches, salads and delicious paninis.
All three locations have the same menu and a full bar.
East Athens
The east Athens DePalma’s Italian Cafe is the location we frequently visit since it’s close to our home. They offer 1/2 price bottles of wine on Monday nights and have the same menu as the downtown location. This restaurant is in a shopping center across from Publix on Barnett Shoals Road and has more of a casual dining atmosphere. There is one large dining area plus a few tables next to the bar. They also have outdoor tables for dining when the weather is good.
Timothy Road
The newest DePalma’s Italian Cafe location is on Timothy Road across from Academy Sports. This location has a great dining atmosphere and plenty of parking in front of the restaurant.
DePalma’s management does something that should be more common in the restaurant industry. They tip out the kitchen staff. It’s not as much as servers earn but it makes a big difference in the morale of the kitchen workers. Surprisingly, this is not the case with many restaurants. This is just one more reason to eat at DePalma’s!
You really can’t go wrong with any of the locations. The food is consistently good so if you plan to go on a busy night, you may want to make reservations.
